Just a heads up – today was perhaps the laziest day we had. Don’t get yourselves too excited, fans.

Alex was up around 11:30 am. I slumbered until 12:15 pm. LET’S GO! We knew we had to stock up on sleep before the road trip because we’re planning on doing a lot, which limits sleep and rest time. When I got up I did like 83 more of those Kenken puzzles. So addicting. Shortly after I got up I received some bad news from my mom while watching all of the Apple announcements with Alex. My great uncle Lenny passed away, Scout’s health isn’t too great, and my mom needs to get a new car. Bad news comes in 3s, right? I texted my cousins to check in on everyone. We anticipated his passing, but it was sad nonetheless.

We got to Little Havana for lunch around 1:45, knowing we had to back around 3 to meet up with Alex’s aunt Cindy. Little Havana offered delicious Cuban food. I had the lunch special of chicken steak with rice and beans and a cafe cubano. Alex had pork with rice and plantains. Quick, easy, cheap, and delicious. We got back just in time to hang out with aunt Cindy, Alex’s mom’s sister, for about 10-15 minutes before she picked up the rest of the ladies in the family for a movie.

From 3-8:45 we were lazy bums in the house. I sorted out some travel stuff for Squirrel’s (Bryan Licata) wedding which is in late October, worked on this blog, watched TV, and packed. Alex watched TV and napped, and did nothing toward packing. Awesome – good thing we’re not leaving tomorrow…Alex picked Sushi House as our final meal in Miami before the road trip – very full circle considering that’s where we ate when we rolled into Miami a week and a half ago. We arrived at 9 and ate everything on the menu – 8 incredible rolls plus sashimi and some apps. Truly incredible food. We got a lot of it to go for the road trip (clutch), and got back home around 10:30.

The rest of the night we packed and relaxed, getting ready for the massive road trip ahead. We’re trying to leave tomorrow by 8 am to beat the Miami commuter traffic. Our first stop is Tampa to visit the lovely Sam Smith at her house for homemade Cuban sandwiches (she already told us the menu). That’s midway between Tallahassee, where we’ll be staying with Vanessa Jollay (throwback to CWFBAG summer 2013) who more than graciously is allowing us to crash at her place for the night near FSU. In total it should be about 8 hours of driving, essentially driving the diagonal of Florida from southeast to northwest. We’re stopping in Mobile, Alabama on Friday afternoon before heading to New Orleans for the weekend to see Jay Lapin and Robbie Kaufman. Can’t believe this massive road trip is finally happening!!
