DAY 1 – WEDNESDAY 8/26/15 – NEW ROCHELLE, NY TO WASHINGTON DC

Road Trip 2015

Alex and I left New Rochelle around 12:30 pm after we stopped for burritos at the Mexican Corner Restaurant and got some supplies at CVS. We made good time getting to Washington DC around 5:30 pm, even though finding parking was a little difficult. We ended up parking at the Gallery Place lot right next to Gill’s apartment, which is where I knew we should park since he’s parked there since he’s lived next to the Verizon Center. We stopped at the Chesapeake Center rest stop for about 10 minutes where I got iced coffee and Alex got pretzels, but besides that we didn’t need to stop on the first leg of our journey. We got into Gill’s apartment around 6 pm. We watched some TV, he showed us the 2 episodes of “Jerks” (the beyond embarrassing YouTube video series Alec Milton and I committed to filming during 2013-5 when I lived in Baltimore). Alec arrived around 6:30. Repeat TV and YouTube showing. Took an Uber to Pasara Thai at DuPont circle where Gina Willensky was already waiting for us. I had Tom Yong Goong, 2 Thai iced teas, chicken pad Thai, and hilarious conversation for dinner.
For dessert we walked over to Yogato, a frozen yogurt place. It was small but super fun! They had a ton of different challenges (long-lasting and daily) to receive discounts off your final price. I solved the Trivia O’day (name an element that ends in –y), barely missed the Geography O’Day (name 7 countries that start and end with the letter –a…missed Albania and something else…), and ordered in a Foghorn Leghorn voice for a total of 15% off my final tab. FroYo was delicious – small regular frozen yogurt with raspberries, strawberries, and Oreos. And after that we played Super NES games they had at a mini table – let’s go Rampage!
Lelchuk walked Gina back to her apartment. Gill, Milton and I had to pee real bad so Danny pioneered going to a bar where the bathroom was occupied and there was a line. Sooooo we walked next door and all got in but had to get our hands stamped with this little red star stamp. No big deal OK THIS IS A GAY BAR. Nothing wrong with gay bars, but didn’t expect that when we walked in. Guys in drag, skimpy outfits. Milton was in heaven. Went to pee real quick and then bounced. Met up with Lelchuk, took another Uber back to Gill’s and chilled the rest of the night. We downloaded Ted 2 from Korea and watched about an hour of that with Korean subtitles and inconsistent swear word bleeps. Good stuff. We all crashed around 1:30 am. Great first day.
