DAY 52 – FRIDAY 10/16/15 – MEMPHIS, TN

October 16, 2015 Road Trip 2015  No comments

10:00 am – We awoke from our peaceful slumbers. We cleaned ourselves in the pure water of Memphis’ finest establishment, our Super 8 Motel.

10:30 am – Drove in our automobile machine to historic Downtown Memphis, Tennessee. We parked our vehicle a convenient 2 blocks away from the Peabody Hotel.

11:00 am – Arrived on the later side to the morning viewing of the March of the Peabody Ducks. We viewed atop the 2nd level, views fit for kings amongst the crowded populous. We watched the ducks parade from the elevator down the red carpet to the fountain. What a sight to see!

11:30 am – Toured the Stax Museum of Soul Music in what used to be Stax Studios. Tons of history of the brief though monumentally significant music powerhouse. We also ran into the sister and daughter of Dave from Sam and Dave. Wow.

1:15 pm – We put aside desire for food and drink at the downtown Central BBQ. BBQ nachos and mac and cheese for myself, whilst Alex enjoyed wings and the pulled pork platter. As gentlemen of the economy, we washed and saved our souvenir cups.

2:00 pm – The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Museum was one of the most informative and all-ecompassing museums I’ve ever visited. It’s designed around room the original hotel, which is where MLK was shot in the late 60’s. It was a poignant and appropriate setting to display such strides in history. Anyone in Memphis – make sure to do this.

4:45 pm – The Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid was a spectacle of human innovation, architecture, and fishing gear. Some of the fellows from Duck Dynasty were there, hence the long line. It was a small hunting-themed world inside a giant pyramid. What a time.

5:15 pm – Back to the hotel for afternoon tea and to retire to our studies. Alex worked on his phone whilst I slumbered peacefully, like a darling baby cherub.

8:00 pm – Arrived at historic Beale Street. We walked to and fro, up and down one of the most iconic streets in America. The Diver at Silky O’Sullivan’s was a real treat and undertaking. We saw some great live music as well, sonorous and harmonious in nature. Side note – Alex ordered a drink and the guys at the bar made fun of his ID because he was 16 and looked way different. LOL!

10:45 pm – We dined at Dyer’s burgers, supping on local hamburgers and milkshakes. What a late night treat!

11:30 pm – We sauntered in to our home away from home. Alex met a new friend, Kristen, a local business mogul in the midst of a career change.

12:00 am – At the end of a long day, we shut our eyes and cast aside the worries of mortal men.
