DAY 48 – MONDAY 10/12/15 – CHICAGO, IL

October 12, 2015 Road Trip 2015  No comments

BACKWARDS POST!

1:30 am – Got back to Emily’s apartment and went to bed.

1:15 am – Left Headquarters Beercade in what we came to find out was “Mystery Lyft.” Our driver, Chone, was known for having a mystery box in the back full of treats and prizes that changed constantly, hence the mystery. We each got 2 candy bars and a bottle of water. Such great customer service!

11:45 pm – Got to Headquarters Beercade, a bar / arcade that Cohn had taken me to when I visited in April. There are 2 locations, and it turns out I took Alex to the wrong one. Most of the games were either closed down or faulty. We still had a lot of fun – I set the high score on Pac Man and Alex on Donkey Kong – let’s go Team Handsome! We started the night off with a drink at the bar, where some a$$ spilled a drink over Alex. He wasn’t happy, to say the least.

9:45 pm – Got back to Emily’s apartment from dinner. We hung out and talked about working at camp back in the day. We even played and sung some of the old color war songs we wrote. Felt so good.

8:00 pm – Got to Lynnley Rothenberg’s apartment for dinner with her and her boyfriend Brett (and dog, Cody). The walk from El Hefe was really pleasant. It was so nice to have a home-cooked meal and to catch up, AND to see them both in Chicago for the second time in 6 months! Always so great to see old friends.

5:30 pm – Alex and Adam left to go back to Emily’s so Adam could get ready for his flight and to get dinner. I went to El Heje, a really awesome restaurant to watch the Cubs game with Cubs fans in the Windy City. Such a great atmosphere with great service and really friendly customers. I love baseball so much. And what a great win for the Cubs at home!

4:15 pm – Shaw’s for happy hour oysters, per the recommendation of Alex’s mom. I was feeling awful so only had 1, but the Lelchuk boys enjoyed everything they ordered. After the snack I went next door to 7-11 to get Aleve for my back.

3:45 pm – Garrett’s popcorn! Almost no line. We each got the Chicago mix – cheddar and caramel. So good. Dropped Sophie off at her mom’s work at Chase bank in downtown Chicago.

3:15 pm – Millenium Park with Sophie and the Lelchuks. The Bean is so cool – took lots of photos. Sophie hugged a guy with a “Free Kisses” sign and posed for a pic with him and he kissed her on the cheek, much to her surprise and disgust. Great pic.

3:00 pm – Walked along the Chicago River on the way to Millenium Park.

2:30 pm – Portillo’s for a world famous Chicago dog! So good! Chanelle and Martha left after our snack.

2:00 pm – Eataly Chicago! Even though I wasn’t feeling great I still had a banana nutella crepe from the Nutella bar. The 2 story restaurant / shop had delicious food everywhere.

1:30 pm – Stopped at the Hershey and Ghirardelli stores. I coughed so hard and so much I hurt my back. This being sick thing needs to stop.

1:15 pm – Chanelle McFarland!!!! Finally got to see her in Chi-town. She’s also my mixed doubles partner, aka 1 half of the Williams Sisters. Let’s go!

12:45 pm – Velvet Tacos with Martha Wedner and Sophie Schenk, native daughters of Chicago. Hipster-y tacos and soft drinks, but really delicious! I had a chicken tikka masala taco and a pork belly taco. Sophie said she and Martha planned out a Chicago food tour for us. Such legends, I guess they can hang with us…

12:15 pm – Left Emily’s apartment for lunch.

11:00 am – Woke up. Put on our make up and got our hair did. Excited for a full day out in Chicago!!
